Visiting Keukenhof Gardens
Keukenhof surprised me. Eighty acres of tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, lilies, and irises. I wandered from flower to flower, delighted and amazed. I felt absolutely awestruck without feeling overwhelmed. I had difficulty taking photos because I didn’t know where to focus. So many wonderful flowers, so much gorgeous color. Benches scattered throughout the garden allowed me to pause, catch my breath, and continue walking. The picnic area served up hot french fries and cold beer. I asked my wife if we could visit again next year and she said without a pause, “Yes!”
Keukenhof opens in mid-March and closes in mid-May. The gardens are in Lisse, Netherlands near Amsterdam. Book a ticket to the gardens in combination with a shuttle ride so that you don’t have to deal with the stress of driving.
Keukenhof has excellent facilities for picnicking in the garden. You can bring lunch, buy one, or grab a beer. The gardens are accessible, clean, and safe. The day we visited they had live music.
You can learn more about Keukenhof from their YouTube channel.
