This painting comes from the pen and ink drawing that I did “The Person Inside.” I had painted the yellow background not knowing what image go on top. I hadn’t even considered the pen and ink drawing. Then one day, staring at the canvas, I decided it needed some red and blue. Then finally, I decided to paint the line drawing on top. The blue and red came out nicely, looking like a bruise. I had never intended that. I think the color of the bruise gets to the feeling that we often have that our woundedness is often hidden inside, just under the surface, as we go about the practical business of life.
