The Eagle

by Dr. Kumar Kaushik Ranjan

The eagle writes absence
across a blue sheet of air—
a dot rehearsing
the art of return.

Circles dissolve
into circles,
each orbit forgetting
its beginning.

In winter
I kept it in my eye:
a black seed,
a wheel turning
without ground.

What does it see—
a lattice of fields,
our gestures blurred
to noise,
or nothing at all?

Meanwhile
we roost on concrete ledges,
leaning into mirrors,
counting reflections
like debts—
the promise of a face
always arriving,
never here.
