Again

by Sammy Bellin

Meet up, you say
when the snowflakes melt on ruby cheeks
like kisses stolen from breathless dreams
and we will be whole again.

Meet by the elm tree, you say
when the leaves blaze in a riotous bonfire
by the Methodist church with its rising spire
and we will fall in love again.

Meet down at the river, you say
when the banks recede and children swim
we’ll watch the azure skies fill with heron
and we will sing again.

Meet in the fields, you say
when the hyacinths wake from their slumber
drowsy bulbs full of sun and soft thunder
and we will dream again.
