True Love Forever

by Kimberly Barsamian

He was my version of
Beautiful at fourteen
His black hair was known
As tussled by Mom
And I could tell she liked
Saying that, so I never did

His eyes were mood ring blue
Meaning he was calm and
Lovable, and he so was
His eyes never grew to
A stormy blue
Like my Dad’s

He had the softest of kisses
That whispered across my cheek
And that smile flashed on
Surprising me every time
And his touch gave me
A small shiver of joy

I would love him forever
He was beautiful
I loved watching him
Dig his heels into the dirt
Swerving his bike towards me
And seeing a proud smirk
For a sec, then he was off

I watched him leap from the bridge
Down into the black water
Along with the other boys
I loved seeing him pop
Up like a happy seal
And look right at me

He was beautiful and
I loved him forever
Until I couldn’t watch him
Anymore; he watched my eyes
darken to a gray uncertainty

My mood had changed,
Three months were
Forever at fourteen
